what is your name?
Ashley Margaret Doherty
- what is your favourite tattoo style?
I like to take on a variety of different styles and feel comfortable working with anything from neo traditional to new school and photo realism.
- when did you first start?
I started my apprenticeship in 2006 when i was 18 and was full time tattooing in February of 2007.
- where are you from, and where did you get your start and where have you worked in the past?
I was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. I apprenticed at a busy street shop and after working there for a total of 2 years I had the oppurtunity to work with some amazing artists at Lucky Strike custom tattoo. I moved away from Edmonton and worked in San Diego, California at Fivetwo tattoo shop and Buju tattoo with some great friends and amazing artists. I moved to Vancouver in March of 2011 and worked at Adrenaline before coming to Gastown Tattoo Parlour.
- why did you get into tattooing as a career?
Tattooing and the whole subculture always interested me. I was really into art growing up. Through my love of other mediums and drawing I was offered an apprenticeship and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to begin a career based on art. Ultimately I guess tattooing came to me.
- whats your favourite music generally?
Pop punk, punk rock, hip hop… pretty much anything thats awesome.
- what insprires you?
I’m inspired hugely by the tattoo community itself. I’ve had the chance to work with and be exposed to so many incredible artists. I’ve learned so much and am consistently applying new techniques and ways of doing things to my artwork. My style is ever evolving, and I attribute that to being surrounded by people who are inspired themselves.
